Making Money From Your Photographs

Do you have the dream of making money out of your fine art photography? Would you like to see your prints hanging in collectors’ homes? Of course the answer to these two questions is positive, but, unfortunately, those would be the most difficult ways to sell your photographs these days. Indeed, even some of the most popular photographers do not make a living only by selling their fine art photography prints. I’m not saying it’s impossible, but you need to look for alternative ways to earn enough from your photography! Let’s present you three ways to do that!

Act locally – Some of the biggest names in the photography have started by contacting their local papers to sell them their photography. In general, there are two ways to do this right. You can either show them your portfolio of images to inspire them to contact you when they need a photographer. Once your portfolio gets expanded, you can move onto better and bigger thing. If you don’t have an established relationship with the local paper, you could capture local events and stories. Since it’s rather easy to get a press pass for almost any local event, go out yourself and shoot some breathtaking images. Take these photographs to local paper, charge them if they want to publish them. Bonus tip: it’s better to call them than to send an e-mail.

Stock Photography – If you have a large portfolio (but also if you’re a novice photographer), you could submit your photos to one or more of those stock photography websites, but I suggest this one: Photography Jobs Online. Add keywords to the images you want to submit for people to easily find them. In case potential clients access your photos and like them, they’ll buy them and you’ll earn some cash.

Be an assistant – Being an assistant photographer is probably the easiest way to find work and make money taking photos. Photographers usually need assistants on jobs and for you it might be an opportunity to gain experience and earn cash. Start with local photographers, call them and offer your help. You might consider doing the job for free the first time and, once they realize how good you are, they’ll want you back.
